
Latest Awards for Shuckers Center, Guard Bring Team’s Season Total to Five Honors
Severn, MD (February 19, 2012) – The Bay Area Shuckers were notified today that two players, Center Danny Thompson and Guard Terry Hosley, have earned American Professional Basketball League (APBL) Southern Conference Player of the Week Honors.
Thompson won the league’s top weekly honor for his performance in the Shuckers 122-121 overtime win over the Palmieri Jeans Destroyers on January 26th. Thompson, a Mount St. Mary’s product in his first season of professional basketball, tallied 24 points and 20 rebounds. Thompson also won player of the week on November 17th, in just his second pro start, for a 22 point, 20 rebound outing against the Nova Hawks.
Hosley also earned the league’s top weekly award for the Shuckers triumph over the Metropolitan All-Stars on February 2nd. In the 124-117 win, Hosley scored 36 points. Hosley, an APBL MVP Candidate, has scored over 34 points seven times this season and has scored over 27 points in ten of the Shuckers 12 games. He also won Player of the Week honors on January 5th for a 38-point performance against the Winchester Storm and was named the league’s player of the month for November by averaging 39.6 points in three games.
The Shuckers (9-4) now have a magic number of one to clinch their first division title after winning six of eight games following a 3-2 start. The Shuckers can win the Colonial Division title with a win this weekend over the Alexandria Avengers or a loss by the Winchester Storm (3-7) at the Rockville Victors (9-1).
Bay Area returns to action on Saturday February 19th at 7:00 PM when they take on the Avengers (2-10), who defeated the Shuckers two weeks ago, 134-132, on a last second tip-in. The game will be the fifth of six straight home games at the Annapolis Area Christian School (AACS) in Severn, Maryland. Tip-off is 7:00 PM.
