Shuckers Snapshot: A three-game win streak and a forfeit awarded by the APBL for an earlier cancellation at West Virginia has thrust the Shuckers up the APBL rankings and put them on the doorstep of their first division title in only their second season. If the Shuckers (8-3) win over the Avengers and the Winchester Storm Storm (3-5) lose this weekend to the Nova Hawks (2-7) and the All-Stars (10-2), the Shuckers will clinch a tie for the Colonial Division title.
Avengers Snapshot: Founded in 2008 the Avengers played in the National Professional Basketball League and Eastern Basketball Alliance previously before joining the APBL to take over the record and remaining schedule of the West Virginia Monarchs; who ceased operations in January. A team loaded with talent, the Avengers provided a tough battle for the All-Stars before falling in their APBL debut.
Outlook: It has been a great year for local sports fans. The Baltimore Orioles made their playoff run in fall, the Baltimore Ravens won the Lombardi Trophy last weekend, and now the Shuckers have a shot to make their mark on the area sports scene by winning the first professional basketball division title in the Baltimore metro area since the Baltimore Bullets won the NBA’s Eastern Division title in 1972-1973; a span of 40 years.
