Shuckers Snapshot: After a 3-1 start the Shuckers have dropped two of three, losing tough games to two of the league’s best, the Beltway Bombers (6-1) and Rockville Victors (7-1). Last weekend they fell behind by more than 20 points several times to the Victors, rallied back late to cut the lead to one, before falling in the final minutes of the game to lose 128-116. The Shuckers bench continued to take shape as newcomer Jabril Bailey, in his Shuckers’ debut, scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Bay Area also received strong bench performances from Anthony Thomas and Lamarr Shorts. Terry Hosley leads the Shuckers with 37.67 points per game, Danny Thompson tops the team in rebounds with 14.17 per game, and Mike McKenzie is the leading assist man with 6.83 per contest. Rocky Coleman and Gus Chase led the Shuckers last week in scoring with 34 and 31 points, respectively.
Hawks Snapshot: After a 122-90 win over the New York Jaguars at home on December 15th, the Hawks have dropped three straight to the All-Stars (109-107), Destroyers (117-97), and NYC 524 (105-102). Joe Flegler was named the American Professional Basketball League (APBL) Clutch Player of the Week in the win over the Jaguars by posting 25 points, seven rebounds, and 12 assists.
Outlook: With a win over the Hawks, the Shuckers could move 3 ½ games up on Nova with just eight games left on Bay Area’s schedule – with the Winchester Storm (2-4) in second place. A win by the Hawks and they move to 1 ½ games back and create an extremely tight race with the Shuckers, Storm, and Hawks. Nova is 1-3 at home this season, while the Shuckers are 1-2 on the road. For both of these teams its important they stop mid-season skids as they head to the stretch.
