Morgan State’s Ali Re-Signs with Shuckers

Morgan State Starter To Suit up for Baltimore Area Pro Team

Severn, MD (December 26, 2012) – The Bay Area Shuckers announced they have re-signed Ameer Ali, a four-year letterman at Morgan State University and an All-State and All-City performer at Philadelphia’s Simon Grantz High School; who spent time with the Shuckers during training camp.

“We’re glad to have Ameer back with the Shuckers. He gained valuable experience at Morgan and early this season playing for the Beltway Bombers, but we’re glad to see him in a Shuckers uniform,” commented Bay Area Shuckers General Manager John Wolfe.

Ali topped off his career at Morgan State in 2011-2012, starting in 27 of 28 games and ranking second for the Bears in rebounds with 4.6 a game. He also averaged 7.3 points, 1.4 assists, and 1.1 steals a game. Some of his senior superlatives included a career-high 21 points with two steals in just 26 minutes of play at San Francisco on January 3, 2012. He also posted a career-best five steals, while adding seven points and eight rebounds against Xavier. He had a then career-high 17 points against the USC Trojans on November 22, 2011.

Ali’s collegiate career with the Bears began in 2008-2009 as a redshirt freshman when he played in 22 games and averaged 2.6 points and 3 rebounds per contest. He topped off his freshman season with a NCAA Tournament match-up against the Oklahoma Sooners where he played 13 minutes in the First Round battle between the 23-12 Bears and the #2 ranked Sooners. In 2009-2010 he played in 35 games and boosted his totals to 4.4 points and 4 boards a game. Notable performances as a sophomore included a Bears-high nine rebounds, in just 18 minutes against East Tennessee State and a then career-high 14 points, on 6 of 10 shooting, and eight rebounds in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference semi-finals against Hampton University.

In 2010-2011 the Philadelphia native averaged 6.1 boards and 5.1 points a game. He continued to have outstanding performances in 29 games. He nailed a season-high 15 points against Florida A&M, scored seven points and pulled down eight rebounds with three blocks against North Florida in the Division Championship of the Cancun Challenge on November 24, 2010, and in just 24 minutes against Loyola he reeled in ten rebounds and six points. He also had double-doubles against Hampton (ten points/10 rebounds) and Delaware State (11 points/12 rebounds).

In four seasons for Morgan State he played in 116 games averaging 5.2 points and 4.2 rebounds a game.

Ali signed with the Shuckers in October during training camp, but was granted his release, and subsequently signed with the Beltway Bombers, also of the American Professional Basketball League (APBL). He had 17 points, four rebounds, and two blocks in his professional debut with the Bombers, a 149-135 Beltway win over the Hudson Valley Kingz on November 3rd, but has played sparingly since.

The Bay Area Shuckers are members of the APBL a 16-team professional league with teams stretching from Virginia in the south to the Hudson Valley of New York, and includes team in such major markets as Baltimore, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and New York, New York.
