Danny Thompson Selected as Southern Conference’s Top Player
Severn, MD (November 24, 2012) – The Bay Area Shuckers ‘ Danny Thompson was named the American Professional Basketball League’s (APBL) Southern Conference Player of the Week , in just his second professional start, for his 22 point, 20 rebound, and three blocked shot performance against the Nova Hawks on November 17th.
“Danny’s explosiveness is the key to his success. It leads to his strong defense, rebounding, shot blocking, and inside scoring,” commented Shuckers Head Coach Bob Topp.
Thompson’s performance led the Shuckers (2-0) to a 115-101 win over the Hawks to earn their second win in a row to start the season and to claim the early lead in the Southern Conference’s Colonial Division.
A rookie from Mount St. Mary’s, Thompson has gotten off to an excellent start averaging 21 points and 17 rebounds a game in his first two professional starts.
The Bay Area Shuckers are members of the American Professional Basketball League (APBL). The APBL is a 16-team professional league with clubs from Virginia in the south to the Hudson Valley of New York in the north and with teams in the major metropolitan areas of Washington D.C., Baltimore, Maryland, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and New York, New York. The Shuckers are members of the Colonial Division with the NOVA Hawks, West Virginia Monarchs, and the Winchester (Virginia) Storm.
The Shuckers season continues on Sunday December 2nd at 1:00 PM when they travel to Washington, D.C. to take on the Metropolitan All-Stars (3-1). The Shuckers return home on Saturday, December 8th at 7:00 PM to face the North Jersey Pros (1-1). All Shuckers home games tip-off at 7:00 PM and are played at the Annapolis Area Christian School (AACS) in Severn, Maryland.
