Former Meade Mustangs Player, Six-Year Veteran Re-signs with Local Club
Severna Park, MD (August 1, 2011) – The Bay Area Shuckers opened their first wave of signings for the 2012-2013 season by inking Mike McKenzie, the team’s captain in 2011-2012 and a former Meade High School and Anne Arundel Community College player.
“We’re very happy to have Mike back with the Shuckers. He provided solid play and with the experience he brings he also was a calm influence on and off court. It also is great to continue to showcase the home grown talent from Anne Arundel County,” said Shuckers General Manager John Wolfe.
In 2011-2012, Raleigh, North Carolina native McKenzie, who currently resides in Fort Meade, Maryland suited up in 12 games. He averaged 7.00 points and 2.75 rebounds per game. He made his greatest impact handling the ball, posting 3.92 assists per contest (second on the team,) and stealing it from opponents ranking third on the Shuckers with 14 steals. McKenzie set a Shuckers standard with 12 assists in a 149-148 overtime victory against the Beltway Bombers on January 28, 2012. He also shares the Bay Area single game mark for steals with five against NYC 524 in a 130-108 win by the Shuckers on January 14th.
McKenzie crafted his skills locally lettering for three seasons for the Meade Mustangs then played for the Anne Arundel Community College Pioneers in 2002-2003. He then moved on to Hampton University before graduating from Delaware State University.
The 6’1”, 170 pound McKenzie began his pro career playing in the Euro Summer League in Las Vegas for the Italian and French entries before signing with the NoVa Hawks of the Eastern Basketball Alliance in 2009 and the Maryland Marvels of the American Basketball Association in 2010.
